Below is our recent interview with Melissa Leventhal from Foldscope:
Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to your company?
A: Foldscope Instruments, Inc. is the world leader in affordable scientific instruments. Our flagship product, the Foldscope, is a paper microscope that costs less than a cup of coffee and performs on par with other educational microscopes. To date, we have distributed over 1.6 million Foldscopes worldwide to more than 150 countries.
Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?
A: This project is a citizen science longitudinal study designed to analyze the impact of climate change by collecting atmospheric, soil, and nematode (roundworm) data.
Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?
A: As part of the company’s outreach activities, Foldscope Instruments is partnering with the Soil Science Lab Team to engage 400 citizen scientists who will characterize soil quality through data such as microscopy images using Foldscopes. We will be donating Foldscopes to those who don’t have the proper resources and want to participate.
Q: What can we expect from your company in next 6 months? What are your plans?
A: We will continue to develop new tools and services that support our primary mission of making science accessible to everyone. We hope to introduce several new products within the coming year.
Q: What is the best thing about your company that people might not know about?
A: We sell Foldscope Classroom Kits at nearly no cost – so teachers everywhere can share the wonders of the microscopic world with their students. When you purchase 20 in the kit, each microscope only costs $1.75! To make this possible, we sell single microscope kits with accessories at a more profitable price. We’ve also donated 1000s of microscopes to different regions of the globe to further the reach of microscopy.Activate Social Media:
