Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to Genetec?
A: The company was founded in 1997, and is headquartered in Montreal, QC, Canada. Regional offices are also located in Sao Paulo – Brazil, Mexico City – Mexico, Paris – France, Dubai – UAE, and Singapore.
Q: Tell us more about your expertise. What exactly do you do?
A: Our flagship product, Security Center, is an open-architecture platform that unifies IP-based video surveillance, access control, automatic license plate recognition (ALPR), communications, and analytics. We also develop cloud-based solutions and services designed to improve security, and contribute new levels of operational intelligence. Our markets include but are not limited to airports, trains and transit, cities, education, public safety, parking enforcement, and retail.

Q: You’ve recently announced new plate link feature for AutoVu—sharing of parking data between patrol vehicles; could you tell us something more?
A: Plate Link facilitates route planning and improves parking enforcement efficiency by allowing multiple patrol vehicles to act as if they were a single vehicle. By allowing patrol vehicles to share data, the need to circle back after time-limits have elapsed is eliminated.
Q: I read something about your partnership with Bosch Security, how did that start and where do you see the relationship going?
A: Genetec works with many technology partners in the industry. Because Genetec Security Center is built on an open-architecture, the company works very closely to integrate the many different types of ‘sensors’ that make up a physical IP security network (from cameras to access control and door hardware, body worn cameras, VoIP communications hardware, gunshot listening devices, and third party plug-in software). These alliances are all part of the Genetec Technology Partner Program, which is designed to allow partners to achieve optimal integration and leverage the partnership to maximize co-marketing opportunities.
