Q: For those who haven’t heard of it, what is the best way to describe Sentrium?
A: Originally founded in 2010 by the core team behind the open-source project VyOS, an enterprise-grade router and firewall, Sentrium has quickly grown into a reliable IT partner for more than a dozen of businesses undergoing digital transformation.
Today we bring our tried and tested business automation solutions designed to build efficient workflows and establish effective processes that connect business assets into a well-oiled ROI machine.
Q: If I understand correctly, Sentrium was founded by the original team behind VyOS. Can you, please, share how your experience affected your company?
A: Yes, that’s right.
The VyOS project was started in late 2013 as a community fork of the GPL portions of Vyatta Core 6.6R1 with the goal of maintaining a free and open-source network operating system in response to the decision to discontinue the community edition of Vyatta.
VyOS is an open-source network OS designed for implementation in the cloud and on bare-metal appliances. We have been working on it for years diving deeper into the infrastructure of organizations that chose to use our services. In simpler words, we had the opportunity to learn how countless IT projects work from the inside.
Then there are the management skills that we’ve acquired over managing remote teams from all over the world and organizing their effort into an efficient workflow.
Lastly, we’ve learned a lot about the benefits of automation and infrastructure virtualization through both working with a tight budget on our own, and through successfully assisting our partners who faced similar challenges.

Q: Can you tell us something more about your team?
A: Well, this is the leading product resource. Driven by the same vision and objective they constantly bring value into the product contribution. This is what helps the engineering team stay aligned, even though we are dispersed across the globe.
Q: What types of solutions do you provide to your clients?
A: VyOS lets to connect with a complete feature set at a cost-effective price point on-premises and in the private and public clouds like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Alibaba Cloud and more.
We provide several tiers of support, depending on your needs. The main differentiators are response times, priority routing, and direct access to Sentrium Engineers. As additional services, we are also able to come up with integration support and assistance with designs and deployments.
In simpler words, we offer access to talented individuals who can take care of a company’s IT infrastructure. This grants the core product team some breathing space and the ability to focus on strategic business challenges.
Q: What is the impact of VyOS on businesses?
A: Over the last few years VyOS has been rapidly developing the open-source capabilities so that any contributor or business can either advance their engineering skills or manage their digital product, and network performance. We know how challenging it is to implement enterprise-level cloud, network, or security solutions in a small and mid-sized project. As a result, we came up with an idea to make the solution accessible to everyone.
What is more, companies also suffer from the lack of skilled personnel capable of leading the charge of digital transformation. In fact, this is among the top obstacles IT leaders point out.
Networking and security are also amid the largest domains of experience for us. VyOS team offers advanced traffic control options, VPN functionality, and network*cloud infrastructure management solutions through our own open-source project – VyOS.

Q: What are you most excited about in the industry at the moment and what future trends are you expecting to see?
A: We are excited to see that more and more businesses are turning their gaze to a wider variety of SaaS and open-source solutions. Whereas a handful of players held dominance in the industry for years, diversity allows entrepreneurs to avoid vendor lock-in while making the market more competitive pushing the innovation further.
This opens the doors for an infrastructure that is 100% programmable. It can then be tailored to meet business challenges.
We are also happy to see that more and more businesses are starting to take security concerns seriously.
Lastly, the rise of Managed Services is great news as it means, well, more business for us.

Q: What is your best experience working with a customer?
A: Being an open-source project, we are always expanding our functionality. The next line may sound strange, but the best experience we have while working with a customer is when there isn’t a feature in place to serve an exact need. This means that not only do we get to deliver a unique customer experience by building a custom element from scratch, but we also get to expand the overall functionality of our projects such as VyOS.
