SimplyVital’s Nexus Health Blockchain Platform Aims To Connect The Next Generation Of Healthcare Applications

Listen to this article

SimplyVital Health brings together healthcare-grade security and compliance with the freedom and innovation of open source technology. The freedom, openness, and security of Health Nexus generates new revenue streams for health care leaders. Digital health care companies, physician groups, and hospitals can leverage the Health Nexus protocol to build applications that make transactions involving sensitive data easier, faster, and more reliable for users. Specifically, SimplyVital will continue to create applications leveraging Health Nexus, focusing on bringing liquidity to healthcare data, a liquid asset not currently attainable to patients or providers. Below is our interview with Katherine Kuzmeskas, CEO & Co-founder of SimplyVital Health:

Q: Do you have a background in healthcare?

A: Yes, I was an administrator at Yale New Haven Hospital and needed our existing, revenue-generating platform but could not find it, so I built it. While at Yale New Haven, I served as a Strategic Planner and the project manager of the Center for Musculoskeletal Care. As a strategic planner, I developed business market assessments for the senior leadership of the medicine and surgery service lines for the entire health system. Prior to working at Yale New Haven, I designed and led the development of a care management platform for Connecticut’s largest community health center network. The care management platform is still used every morning for strategic clinical decision making. In addition, I attained a full scholarship and a 4.0 in the Masters of Public Health program.

In addition, we have an engaged, experienced Advisory Board and Board of Directors with health care experience. Notably, Dr. John Halamka, CIO of Harvard’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, is our advisor and has successfully implemented a blockchain proof of concept at his hospital. He is a strong supporter of blockchain in healthcare, and in November is overseeing a Bill and Melinda Gates healthcare blockchain project in Africa.

Q: Why does the healthcare ecosystem need the Health Nexus?

A: If you survey the landscape of today’s healthcare technology you find it characterized by disparate disconnected systems making decisions on partial information. When data is shared it is often too little and too slowly to be of any use in improving the immediate care of patients.

The knowledge care providers need to effectively manage a patient’s care is often unavailable when it’s needed most. What is needed is an efficient and secure way of coordinating cross-system data that is purposely designed to remove as many barriers to adoption as possible. Open source, decentralized, fully compliant, and rent-free Health Nexus will connect the next generation of healthcare applications.

Q: How do you differentiate from competitors?

A: There are a few differences: The first primary difference is our validation and governance protocol. None of our competitors are offering this, meaning that we are the only ones that will be able to operate in a HIPAA compliant environment. We are also including a key management system in our protocol, which should allow for efficient and secure data sharing. We are also rent free, helping lower the barriers of adoption. Finally the stage we are at is different. We are first company with a healthcare blockchain product in production with paying customers and a revenue stream. In addition we are rolling out the first phase of our application with our main sale, meaning that our token will have utility out of the gate. So we are further along than our competitors.

Q: What is the benefits of using validated miners instead of public mining?

A: Fully compliant and validated miners, proof of stake, and consortium governance are some of the protocol changes we think are necessary to remove obstacles to adoption amongst healthcare providers. By requiring miners be known and validated we limit the network’s susceptibility to outside bad actors which should allow full adoption by enterprise healthcare entities.

Q: When do you foresee a minimum viable product (MVP) release for SimplyVital Health?

A: Our existing product ConnectCare is available now. Health Nexus will be rolled out in a series of development phases as outlined in our whitepaper starting with phase one being available at the time of our token sale.

Q: How will the token sale benefit the development of the project?

A: The funds raised during the token sale will be used to develop Health Nexus. There will be a focus on growth of customers and the ecosystem. We will also use marketing of the protocol so that others begin to utilize it. The largest portion of our funds will be directed to product development to insure a highly advanced product is delivered. We will also be dedicating funds to insure our system is secure as well.
