The Earthing Store is a retail store/website that encourages better health through something called Earthing. Earthing, also known as grounding, is based on research that demonstrates that connecting to Earth’s electrical energy promotes physical wellbeing.
Below is our recent interview with Vanessa Morley from the Earthing Store:
Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to the act of Earthing?
A: The act of Earthing refers to a physical connection between the electrical frequencies of the human body with that of Earth’s (think barefoot in the grass, or at the beach). Since walking around barefoot is not always ideal, we provide our customers with Earthing shoes in the form of leather soles, rubber soles with copper rivets or Pluggz earthing footwear.
Q: What is the story behind The Earthing Store, how did you start?
A: This family business all started with Francine and Kurt Scheuermann in a small town east of Toronto, Ontario. Kurt and Francine wanted to escape the busy city life and picked Westport Ontario as a rural place to settle. They decided to start a retail store that carried Canadian made goods. This retail store was called The Brown Bear and was open from 1972 until 1998.
Kurt and Francine passed their work ethic and entrepreneurship down to their 4 children. In 2010 Francine, and one of her daughters Natalie, decided to team up and begin selling online. They started with moccasins as their main product as this was one of the most popular items at The Brown Bear store.

Because The Brown Bear started small, they have tried to cherish and keep their customer relations as personal as possible. They realize how popular shopping online has become, but realize it is not always a personal or enjoyable experience for everyone, so they try their best to keep their customers happy and make themselves available to chat or assist where needed.
In 2012 another one of Francine’s daughters, joined the team and was able to help launch a few more lines and online stores within The Brown Bear. Every time they add a store or product line, they aim to fulfill a need. They believe in the products they sell. That is why they started The Earthing Store as they know that this line of product will improve people’s health and they believe in the benefits of Earthing themselves.
Q: What kinds of products do you offer to your customers?
A: We offer our customers primarily Earthing footwear, however we also provide information on Earthing and tips through our blog. We also link to other Earthing products such as sheets and matts through some of our affiliates.
Q: What makes your shoes conductive so you can practice Earthing while wearing them? What are they made of?
A: Our shoes are made from leather which is conductive, especially once it mixes a bit with the moisture from your feet and the ground. We are also inserting copper rivets into a few styles of rubber sole moccasins as copper is a conductive material. Our other shoes are Pluggz which have a custom carbon rubber compound which is also conductive.

Q: What are your plans for the future?
A: Our plans for the future are to continue to expand our footwear lines with new styles and options to keep people grounded. We would like to find new innovative ways for customers to be able to practice Earthing at an affordable price.
