The Women Of Global Change – A Non-Profit And Social Impact Organization Dedicated To The Advancement Of Women And Children Around The World

Listen to this article

Below is our recent interview with Cheyenne Hunt, from The Women of Global Change:

Q: Can you tell us something more about the organization and what you do?

A: The Women of Global Change is a non-profit and social impact organization dedicated to the advancement of women and children around the world. Through our local chapters, we create communities of leaders and entrepreneurs who support each other in business and come together in collaboration to execute service projects. During our annual international summit, we take a select group of experts to host an exclusive week-long mastermind and complete a much larger service project for a community in dire need. We also take the opportunity to explore our international destination and authentically experience the culture and sites.

Q: You’ve recently hosted your first annual national conference in Las Vegas; could you tell us something more?

A: Our first annual conference was a completely new kind of event for us and really challenged our organization to shift and grow to accommodate a higher caliber of professionals and a different kind of project. We had an elite group of experts on AI speak about the potential uses and ethical implications of the new technology, such as Marcos Campos, the head of AI for Autonomous Systems at Microsoft. Additionally, we had inspirational guidance from Frank Shankwitz, the founder of the Make a Wish Foundation and a private screening of Wish Man, the new biopic his life. Additionally, Larry Namer, the founder of E! network, was in attendance and spoke about the development of the network and the power of media in making a positive impact. Over the two days of the conference, attendees were able to network not only to benefit their own projects and companies but also to find ways that we can come together and make a bigger difference for those in need. On day three, we went to Lewis E. Rowe Elementary school where 94% of students qualify for free and reduced lunch and aimed to improve their learning environment and spark their excitement to come to school. We constructed a full outdoor classroom with shaded picnic tables, a full canopy and playmat large enough to fit the whole class, and a full size mounted whiteboard.

Q: How do you make an impact? What’s your mission?

A: It is our mission to bring opportunity to women and children around the globe who are affected by crippling poverty. WGC makes an impact on many levels. Through our local chapters, we provide a local networking community with a unique culture committed to the service of others as opposed to the pursuit of personal gain. As a result of this collaborative culture, our members have made incredible connections, partnerships, and friendships with like-minded people in their area. Additionally, these members come together to address the need in their communities and execute service projects ranging from the refurbishing of a domestic violence shelter to supporting the local police department’s Santa Cop’s program to bring holiday gifts to children in need.

Through our annual international summit, we aim to inspire those who have been given and achieved much to reach out their hand to their peers in collaboration and to those in need from a place of kindness and leadership. We also run our Youth Initiative during the international summit where kids ages 6-17 develop their own business, work on self esteem and relationship skills, and are challenged to consider ways that they can use their leadership to help those in need. Then, youth and adults come together to serve a community in dire need. In prior years, we have constructed an infant care unit for infants infected with HIV in Honduras, fully supplied a career training center for middle eastern and african refugee women in Barcelona, and turned bare cement structures into classrooms for students in Costa Rica and Haiti, just to name a few.

Q: What does it take to get involved?

A: Take a look at our website, www.thewomenofglobalchange.com and see if we have a chapter open in your area. If not, we are always looking to expand and if you are interested in bringing a chapter to your town, reach out to admin@thewomenofglobalchange.com. Q: What can we expect from The WGC in the future?

A: In the next year, we expect to open quite a few new chapter in the United States and abroad. We aim to be responsive to the evolving needs of women and children in the modern era, and in the new year we have set our sights on addressing the rising needs of women and children being displaced and affected by climate change. According to the Committee to End All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, Climate crisis scenarios disproportionately affect “women living in poverty, indigenous women, women belonging to ethnic, racial, religious and sexual minority groups, women with disabilities, refugee and asylum-seeking women, internally displaced, stateless and migrant women, rural women, unmarried women, adolescents and older women…compared with men or other women”. There is much work to be done in order to support climate refugees and the women and children who are more subtly affected by the consequences by climate change, and we plan to address these issues head on in the coming year.

We invite anyone who is ready to grow personally, professionally, and as a servant leader to come play with us regardless of their race, gender, class, or religion. The purpose we serve unites us, and the lucrative business deals and lifelong friendships made along the way are just a bonus.
