User-Centric API Monitoring Company Resurface Labs Raises $2M In A Seed Funding

Below is our recent interview with Rob Dickinson, CEO and Co-founder of Resurface Labs:

Q: For those who have never heard of it, how would you describe Resurface Labs?

A: Resurface makes every API call a durable, observable transaction. We call it user-centric API monitoring. By making your API calls observable, you can better understand your customers and improve their experience. You can also more easily improve your APIs while developing a rich data set about user behavior.

Q: What are the key benefits of using the Resurface Labs?

A: Resurface redefines API monitoring by capturing every API call, and displays this data for easy anomaly and problem detection. What that can mean for businesses is to avoid the back-and-forth that happens when customers report an issue from a failed or improper API call. The DevOps/IT teams simply don’t see it. So Tech Support or Customer Support teams are forced to have endless round-trips with the customer and Ops to figure out what happened. Or, they just wait for the problem to occur again. Either way, it’s time consuming and punishes the users. With Resurface, troubleshooting is faster, and you can quickly identify and reach out to affected users to remediate.

We learned from our users that they were uncomfortable sharing their customer use data with 3rd parties, so each Resurface customer owns all their data as a VPC or self-hosted solution. So there’s no risk to their end-users or to the business for privacy or data compliance violations.

Q: Your customer base – is it within specific industries at the moment?

A: We’re solving a problem that occurs across all businesses – especially as many transition to more digital interactions. But the reality is that some large companies have invested years and scores of developers to solve the problem. That leaves a large number that have other priorities or lack the skillsets to take this on. We’re also seeing a lot of interest from other software vendors in the API space, where they’d like to add this functionality to their product.

Q: You’ve recently raised $2,000,000 in Seed funding; can you tell us something more

A: That process really told us that there’s validity in our solution. That even during COVID-19, good ideas are still welcomed and supported. We’ve solving what one of our prospects told us “is a problem I’ve been chasing my whole career, but couldn’t find a way to do it simply and elegantly.”

The funding allows us to add more people to the team and accelerate our go-to-market efforts. And, we get to do that supported by very cool investors.

Q: What can we expect from Resurface Labs in next 12 months?

A: More customer traction, more functionality to bolster the pre-production test and QA use case, and an even easier adoption path. In short, we’re building the product our users tell us to build. We’re that kind of company.
